Treatment Options

Photograph demonstrating the right ovary (white solid structure), right fallopian tube (held gently away from the ovary by the silver probe), filmy adhesions (scar tissue) from the tube to the ovary, dense adhesions from the loop of bowel to the ovary, and a swollen appearance to the fallopian tube (shiny, translucent, thickened). These adhesions probably limit the ability of the right fallopian tube to capture the egg from the right ovary at the time of ovulation. If adhesiolysis is performed, the patient should be given peri and postoperative antibiotics to reduce the chance of reactivating a “dormant” infection that may be harbored by these structures.
