Radiograph of a hysterosalpingogram that demonstrates a uterine cavity that is irregular with constriction sites bilaterally near the tubal ostia and a rounded filling defect along the fundus (there are no right or left markers) to the left of midline (when viewing this photograph). There is bilateral tubal patency. The irregularities in the uterine cavity are characteristic of those seen in women who were exposed to DES (diethylstilbesterol) in utero. Other common hysterosalpingography findings in women with prenatal DES exposure include “T shaped” uterine cavities and small uterine cavities. Women who were exposed to DES in utero have been associated with a number of reproductive problems, including an increased risk for preterm labor (and delivery), ectopic pregnancy, and spontaneous pregnancy loss.
