The lining of the uterine cavity is called endometrium. When these lining (endometrial) cells overgrow into organized masses of tissue they may take several different shapes and are called endometrial polyps. The reproductive importance of endometrial polyps has not been clearly defined. I routinely remove endometrial irregularities (possible polyps) whenever seen at the time of hysteroscopy.
