Clinical Evaluation

Treatment Options

Radiograph of a hysterosalpingogram revealing two persistent round filling defects in the lower uterine segment, patency of one of the fallopian tubes (marker for right or left side is not seen) and fill of the other tube without clear spillage. These round defects could represent endometrial polyps or (partially transmural) fibroids. The patient did undergo surgery at which time resection of two myomas was accomplished. It is very important to recognize that a major blood supply to the uterus (the uterine artery) approaches the uterus at the level of the internal os of the cervix near the junction of the cervix and the lower uterine segment, so that resection in this general region is inherently dangerous and proper care should be exercised.
