Endometriosis and Pelvic Adhesions View 5

Intraoperative photograph displaying a kinked left fallopian tube that is adherent to the left side of the uterus. At the distal end of the tube (far end situated away from the uterus) there is a red inflamed region that most likely represents active endometriosis. In this vicinity, there is also a vesicular lesion (bleb, blister, fluid filled circumscribed elevation) along the peritoneum (shiny thin lining of the pelvis and abdomen) that probably is the result of chronic irritation. Peritoneal irritation may cause pain and scar tissue (adhesion) formation.
