Photograph of the cul de sac behind the uterus that reveals both fallopian tubes (dilated purple cylindrical structures) densely adherent to the area next to (behind) the ovaries (only a small portion of the (white) right ovary can be seen since it is encased by the right fallopian tube). These fallopian tubes are dilated to about 3 cm diameter. Criteria to assess the likelihood of pregnancy after surgical repair of damaged tubes includes (but are not limited to) the diameter of tubal dilatation, presence of normal appearing tissue within the tubal lumen, and presence (including extent and thickness) of peritubal adhesions.
